About the Opportunity
We are seeking a forward thinking, dynamic, research focused school leader as Director of Teaching & Learning, with effect from mid-August 2025.
The Director of Teaching and Learning will be responsible for leading teaching and learning across the whole school, developing and leading the current CPD programme, as well as overseeing the wider management of the secondary setting. They will support the Principal in a deputy capacity, with additional responsibilities for Secondary supported by wider members of SLT and line manage two Assistant Heads and the Secondary Heads of Department.
The role will report directly to the Principal and will play a key role in the development and implementation of the school’s strategic plan and leading teaching and learning across the whole school in line with the Vision, Mission and Values of the School.
Applicants should be committed and outstanding teaching practitioners, able to lead by example, possessing excellent teaching, organisational and communication skills. We are seeking individuals who can monitor, evaluate and develop the curriculum and teaching and learning across the school, to achieve outstanding results and happy children. The role includes a small teaching commitment and the successful candidate should be an exemplary and highly visible role model for staff, students and parents. Applicants should have a background in Secondary education.

The Person
Applicants must have a relevant Batchelor’s degree from a reputable UK University (or equivalent), Qualified Teacher Status, with either a PGCE or BEd from the UK, and a minimum of three years previous leadership experience in a maintained, independent or international British-style school. You should have experience teaching iGCSE and A-Level and experience of successfully working with EAL learners from a variety of cultures.

The School
The British International School of Ljubljana (BISL) (http://www.britishschool.si/) is a growing British-style school serving students aged between 3 and 18 from over 30 nationalities in the capital of beautiful Slovenia, Europe’s “hidden jewel”. Classes are small and the students are eager to learn. BISL is an accredited member of COBIS and in March 2024 met all the standards in an ISI BSO compliance inspection. In a full inspection in 2021 the school achieved OUTSTANDING IN ALL CATEGORIES.
As a British school specialising in delivering the National Curriculum of England to a diverse international student population, strong English language is an essential requirement and applications from First language speakers of English will be preferred.

The British International School of Ljubljana (BISL) is our school in Europe's stunning little jewel: Slovenia.
Recently, PENTA International, one of the leading independent inspectorates of British Schools Overseas, accredited by the British Government’s Department for Education (DfE) rated BISL ‘Outstanding’ in every category. BISL students are aged between 2 and 18 years of age and currently come from 40 different nationalities. The school welcomed its first students in 2008.
