KS3 Leadership Summit in Shanghai
Orbital Education is proud to offer an exciting international learning experience for Key Stage 3 students across Orbital schools. In March 2026, students will travel to the dynamic global city of Shanghai for a unique Leadership Summit hosted by Britannica International School, Shanghai.
Combining leadership development, cultural exploration, and collaborative learning, this immersive programme will help students strengthen the skills they need to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.
Through engaging workshops, inspiring guest speakers, and unforgettable cultural experiences, students will explore key themes including cultural awareness, ethical leadership, collaboration, innovation, and problem-solving. Alongside the academic programme, students will discover some of Shanghai’s most iconic landmarks and traditions while building friendships with peers from across the Orbital Education community.
A Global Classroom in Shanghai
The summit will take place 23–27 March 2026 at Britannica International School, Shanghai, bringing together students from several Orbital Education schools around the world.
Shanghai is one of the world’s most exciting and influential cities, where tradition meets innovation. Its rich history, vibrant culture, and global outlook make it the perfect setting for students to explore leadership in an international context.
Throughout the week, students will take part in a series of interactive leadership workshops, each focusing on a key theme. These sessions will be led by experienced educators and distinguished guest speakers from business, diplomacy, and international education.
Day 1: Arrival and Discovering Shanghai
The journey begins with students arriving in Shanghai and settling into their hotel before enjoying a welcome lunch featuring traditional Shanghai cuisine, including famous steamed dumplings.
Students will meet their peers from Britannica International School, Shanghai and be placed into collaborative groups for the week ahead.
The afternoon offers a first glimpse of the city with a visit to The Bund, Shanghai’s historic waterfront promenade known for its striking skyline views and blend of historic and modern architecture.
In the evening, students will enjoy a Huangpu River cruise, experiencing the city’s iconic skyline illuminated at night — a spectacular introduction to one of Asia’s most vibrant cities.
Day 2: Cultural Awareness and Community Engagement
The first leadership workshop focuses on cultural awareness and empathy. Through interactive activities, students will explore how understanding cultural diversity strengthens leadership and global collaboration.
A special guest speaker from the British Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai will share insights on international cooperation and global business.
After sampling local snacks at Yuyuan Bazaar, students will visit the beautiful Yuyuan Garden, a classical Chinese garden known for its elegant pavilions and tranquil landscapes.
The day continues with a visit to the Jade Buddha Temple, one of Shanghai’s most famous spiritual landmarks, before an evening exploring the charming tree-lined streets of the French Concession, renowned for its cafés, boutiques, and historic architecture.
Day 3: Leadership in Action
Day three challenges students to apply leadership principles in practice.
During the Leadership in Action workshop, students will take part in collaborative activities designed to strengthen teamwork, communication, and decision-making skills. The session will be led by Michael Clack, Director of Education at Orbital Education, offering valuable insights into effective leadership in education.
In the afternoon, students will work in teams on group leadership projects, presenting their ideas and solutions to their peers.
The evening brings a relaxed Games Night, providing an opportunity for students from different Orbital schools to strengthen friendships and enjoy friendly competition.
Day 4: Innovation and Problem Solving
Innovation is at the heart of great leadership. On day four, students will explore creative thinking and problem-solving strategies through an interactive workshop.
Guest speakers Chris Liu, CEO Asia at Bulgari, and Fabio Lambertini, CEO Asia at Duca, will share real-world perspectives on leadership and innovation in global business.
Later, students will visit Shanghai Happy Valley, one of the city’s largest amusement parks, where teamwork and shared experiences continue beyond the classroom.
The day concludes with a lively Karaoke Night, encouraging confidence, collaboration, and plenty of fun.
Day 5: Ethical Leadership and Responsibility
Responsible leadership is a key focus of the summit’s final workshops.
Students will take part in discussions exploring ethical decision-making, accountability, and integrity in leadership. Distinguished guest speakers, including the Consul Generals of the United Arab Emirates and India, will offer perspectives on diplomacy, responsibility, and leadership on the global stage.
In the afternoon, students will visit Qibao Ancient Town, a traditional water town where they can explore historic streets, sample local street food, and shop for souvenirs.
The evening features a memorable hot pot dining experience, where students cook and share their meal together, followed by a night-time walk through Pudong to admire Shanghai’s iconic skyscrapers.
Day 6: Reflection and Future Leadership Goals
On the final day, students will participate in a reflection workshop, considering the experiences and lessons of the week while setting personal leadership goals for the future.
The session will include a talk from Paul Farrell, Principal of Britannica International School, Shanghai, offering advice and inspiration for young leaders.
Before departing, students will have time for final shopping and reflections on an unforgettable international experience.
