BIC Receives BSO Accreditation
Baleares International College, has been awarded the British Schools Overseas (BSO) accreditation. This formal accreditation is the gold standard for British International Education and has been awarded to both sites, Sa Porrassa and Sant Agustí following a rigorous inspection in October 2025.
The BSO inspection is the only system accredited by the UK (DfE) Government, and it confirms that Baleares International College (BIC) meets all British Schools Overseas standards across leadership, quality of education, safeguarding, wellbeing, and contribution to society.
British Schools Overseas accreditation is granted only to international British schools that meet strict UK educational standards. The accreditation provides assurances to families that the school delivers a genuine, high-quality British educational experience. Baleares International College is currently the only school in the Balearic Islands to hold this accreditation
Baleares International College (BIC) has more than 600 students from over 40 nationalities. Inspectors commended pupils’ active contributions to the community, including charitable events, environmental initiatives such as beach clean-ups, and cultural awareness programmes.
Regarding the schools' leadership, the inspection report states
Provision at the school meets the requirements of the BSO Standards” and highlights that leadership “exceeds requirements in most areas,” demonstrating highly beneficial impact for pupils.
The report commended the school’s strategic leadership, strong safeguarding culture, high expectations of behaviour, excellent teaching, and the consistent progress made by pupils of all ages. Inspectors noted that "pupils make at least good progress from their starting points,” and praised the school’s values of respect, responsibility, excellence, integrity and compassion as clearly embedded across both campuses.
The Sa Porrassa campus, which educates pupils aged 5 to 18, received particular praise for its ambitious curriculum, strengthened sixth-form provision, and excellent academic challenge. Inspectors highlighted recently improved sports facilities and upgraded library resources.
We are absolutely thrilled that BIC Sa Porrassa and BIC Sant Agustí are now British Schools Overseas accredited. This reflects the dedication of our staff, the enthusiasm of our students, and the strong partnership we have with our families. We are especially proud that inspectors recognised our ambitious curriculum decisions, our excellent teaching and learning, and the exceptional progress our students make.
Our commitment to providing the very best of British education in an international setting has never been stronger, and this affirms our position.
BIC Sant Agustí, catering for children aged 2 to 11, was praised for its high-quality early years provision, calm and positive environment, strong pastoral care, and well-structured curriculum that fully supports young learners’ development. The inspection noted that pupils demonstrated high levels of respect, confidence, and enthusiasm for learning.
Our Sant Agustí community is delighted with this achievement. The inspectors’ recognition of our nurturing environment, excellent early years practice, and strong academic foundations reflects the passion and professionalism of our staff and the joyful spirit of our pupils.
Jonathan Dey, Orbital Education’s Regional Head of Schools, expressed his delight at seeing the hard work and educational focus of the schools recognised through this accreditation and the highly positive report.
We are incredibly proud of the staff, students and parents for their extremely positive British School Overseas (BSO) Inspection report.
